If you love being around kids then you have probably thought about becoming a teacher. However, there is alot more to being a teacher than liking to be around children. First, you need to be self confident. Remember that you will be in front of a group of people everyday teaching. You will also have to be flexible. Anyone who works with kids knows that they have to change their plans in the blink of an eye. You will have to be able to adapt your plans easily while still managing to get a lesson across to your students.
You should also ask yourself if you are creative. Remember that everyone learns differently and for that reason you need to make sure that you can tailor your lessons for a variety of learning types which will take some creativity. It is also important to remember that most students would rather be anywhere else than sitting in their chair listening to you so you need to make sure that you can make your lessons fun and entertaining.
While being creative you need to make sure that you are organized. You will not just be taking care of your own things, but that things of thirty other students.
Also remember all the close connections that you had with your teachers. Sometimes teachers are more than teachers, they are confidants, friends, and counselors. You need to be deeply tuned in to the feelings of others and have a calming manner. Also, remember that having a sense of humor is a must.
