Grammar School and Confidence:

Children that attend grammar school are at an extremely delicate age.  They are susceptible to so many issues that can later hinder their ability to learn, work and socialize.  It is because of this that we as parents and we as teachers must take measures that are beneficial to their emotional states as well as the educational side of things.  A stable and confident grammar school experience can make a huge difference in a child’s life.

Frustration can be a demon for children at this age.  Frustration comes from not understanding something or not getting something they want, which if you think about it for a second, they want to understand and not understanding something is frustrating.  It is both the teacher’s responsibility and the parent’s responsibility to help them understand and help them without getting frustrated yourself.  Which can be hard, it all seems so simple to us.  To them however, whatever it is that they do not understand is a monumental problem.  This is where we must exercise patience and creativity.

If your child or student is having a hard time with learning math, you might have to approach them with math problems in a different manner.  Not all children learn the same way.  Some children need to be hands on with their learning experiences while others need only hear how to do the math problem.  If you find that your child is getting frustrated, try as many methods to teach as possible until they understand the material.

If they get frustrated, it is possible that they may begin to feel inadequate and sometimes even stupid.  This is not something we want to nurse.  In order to keep the confidence in themselves to an ideal level, we must make sure that the frustration levels within them are low.  When they succeed, offer a lot of praise as it will boost their self confidence and inspire them to want to learn more, do more and be more successful.
