If you are parent to a child that has ADD then you know that the things that are required to learn are difficult for your child. Your child has a hard time sitting still, listening quietly, and concentrating. However, this does not mean that your child will forever struggle in school. There are several ways that you can work with your child to make sure that they are getting the most out of school.

First you need to plan ahead. You need to speak with your child’s teacher and school officials before the beginning of every school year. You need to make sure that you are arranging meeting to check your child’s progress. While you need to be an advocate for you child, you need to understand that while your child is the most important thing to you, these professionals have other students that are in charge of so make sure that you keep the meets short and do not cancel them.

When you meet with your child’s teacher you should work with them to create goals for your child. As a professional in the industry, your child’s teacher probably has experience working with children with ADD. It is also important that if your child’s teacher has something to say that is hard to hear, that you still listen carefully. Do not interrupt and work to understand where they are coming from. It will also be beneficial to share information about your child with their teacher. This will ensure that they understand exactly what your child’s limitations are.
